Before you visit

Everything to know

Getting here & arrival

  • Arrive 10 minutes before your tour to check in — tours begin promptly and late arrivals may miss part of the experience
  • Enter through our Elm Street gate at 42149 Elm St., Murrieta
  • Pull up very close to the gate for it to open automatically
  • Once inside, continue straight until you see a dirt parking lot and make a left

What to wear & bring

  • Closed-toe shoes are required (dirt, uneven ground, and animals)
  • Comfortable clothing you don't mind getting a little dusty
  • Water, especially on warm days
  • Sunscreen, hats, or sunglasses
  • Phone or camera for photos
  • Light jacket or layers during cooler weather

Ranch rules & safety

  • Do not feed the animals unless instructed by a guide
  • Do not chase, run after, or scare any animals
  • Please follow your guide at all times for safety
  • Children must be supervised at all times
  • Be gentle and respectful with all animals
  • Outside food is not permitted

What to expect

  1. Arrival & Check-inPull up to our Elm Street gate 10 minutes early — it opens automatically. Park in the dirt lot and a guide will meet you.
  2. Meet Your GuideYour private guide introduces the ranch and today's route, tailored to your group's pace and interests.
  3. Guided Ranch TourWalk the property and meet our alpacas, cows, horses, goats, and sheep up close.
  4. Animal EncountersPet and meet friendly animals up close under your guide's supervision — the highlight for most guests.
  5. Hands-On Moments & PhotosPlenty of unhurried time for photos with the animals — this is your private slot, no rush.
  6. Wrap-UpWash up at our handwashing stations and head out with a big smile (and probably some hay on your shoes).

Around the animals

  • Even our friendliest animals are unpredictable — they can bite, kick, headbutt, scratch, or spit, especially if startled
  • Approach calmly and quietly; never chase, corner, or pick up an animal
  • Feed animals only when and how your guide shows you
  • Stay with your guide and keep children within arm's reach the whole visit
  • Tell your guide right away if you ever feel uneasy around an animal

Health & hygiene

  • Wash or sanitize hands after touching animals and before eating — stations are on-site
  • No food, drink, pacifiers, or hands in mouths while in the animal areas
  • Let us know about allergies to animals, hay, dust, or bee stings — reactions can happen outdoors
  • If you're pregnant, immunocompromised, or caring for an infant, take extra care and check with your doctor if unsure
  • Please reschedule if you're feeling unwell

On the ranch grounds

  • This is a working ranch — uneven ground, dirt, gravel, and the occasional mud, so watch your footing
  • Southern California sun and heat: bring water, sunscreen, and a hat. Tours run rain or shine unless it's unsafe
  • There's a pond on the property — keep young children close and never near the water alone
  • No smoking, alcohol, drones, or weapons on the ranch
  • Hawk Ranch isn't responsible for lost or damaged personal items; you park and visit at your own risk

Access & service animals

  • Trails can be uneven and may be tough for wheelchairs or strollers — message us ahead and we'll help plan your visit
  • Trained service animals are welcome per the ADA; to protect the herd, please leave other pets at home
  • Recently visited another farm or keep your own livestock? Let us know — a few simple biosecurity steps keep our animals healthy

Cancellation & rescheduling

  • Cancellations made at least 24 hours before your scheduled tour will receive a 50% refund
  • Cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled tour are non-refundable
  • No-shows are non-refundable
  • We are happy to reschedule with advance notice, subject to availability
  • Tours run rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe (we will contact you if needed)

Assumption of risk & the waiver

Farm and animal tours carry inherent risks that can't be fully removed. By booking, you accept those risks for yourself and everyone in your party, and every guest — a parent or guardian for anyone under 18 — signs a short liability waiver before the tour begins.

Hawk Ranch may pause, shorten, or end a visit, or ask a guest to leave, when needed for the safety of our guests, staff, or animals. We sometimes photograph tours for our website and social media — just tell your guide if you'd prefer not to be photographed.

What should we wear and bring?
Closed-toe shoes are required (dirt, uneven ground, and animals). We recommend comfortable clothing you don't mind getting a little dusty, plus water, sunscreen, and a camera for photos.
Is the tour kid-friendly?
Absolutely. Most of our guests are families! Children must be supervised at all times, and our guides are happy to help little ones feel comfortable around the animals.
What happens if it rains?
Tours run rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe. We'll reach out directly if we ever need to reschedule for weather.
Can I book for today or tomorrow?
Tours are by appointment only. If you are hoping to visit today, call the ranch and we will check whether a guide is free. Groups need a little more lead time so we can staff guides.
